Bangladesh on Thursday has expressed grave concern at the recent announcement by the United States recognising Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said the unilateral declaration of US President Donald Trump to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel will cause anarchy around the world.

"This will create instability in the world...the peace process that was initiated by the USA will drive to the path of anarchy with this announcement... this is not desired," she said.

The Foreign Ministry, in a statement, reaffirmed Bangladesh’s position in favour of establishing the State of Palestine on the basis of the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, as per UNB reports.

Bangladesh urged all parties concerned to take a pragmatic approach to the Middle East Peace Process in reaching a two state solution for peace and stability in the region.

Meanwhile, the European Union and United Nations also voiced alarm at the US President Donald Trump’s decision.

Major US allies also turned against Trump’s reversal of decades of US and broad international policy on Jerusalem.
