The number of new dengue patients continues to rise in Bangladesh as health authorities said 19 people were hospitalised with the mosquito-borne disease in the past 24 hours until Thursday morning.

Currently, 93 dengue patients are undergoing treatment at different hospitals across the country, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said.

Since January, the health authorities reported 811 dengue cases. Of them, 713 patients have made recovery, UNB reports.

Bangladesh recorded 101,354 dengue cases last year while 179 people died from the mosquito-borne fever, according to official figures.

A similar situation this year, amid the coronavirus pandemic, would put the country’s health system under great stress, experts said.
