Desh Rupantor Editor Amit Habib no more

Daily Desh Rupantor Editor Amit Habib passed away at a hospital in Dhaka city Thursday night, UNB reports.

Amit, 59, breathed his last at 11pm while undergoing treatment at the National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital, Desh Rupantor Chief Reporter Ummul Wara Sweety, said.

The Desh Rupantor editor was admitted to the hospital after he had a major stroke on July 21. He also suffered a stroke in 2020.

"Amit Habib's first namaz-e-janaza will be held at 10am at Desh Rupantor office in Bangla Motor and the second namaz-e-janaza at the Jatiya Press Club at 11am. After that, his body will be taken to Jhenaidah," Sweety said.

At his death, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has expressed great shock.

She prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Hasan Mahmud expressed profound sadness and shock following the death of Amit.

He prayed for the Desh Rupantor editor's departed soul and extended his deepest sympathy to his family.

Dhaka-based Jhenidah Journalists’ Forum has also expressed great shock at Amit’s death and prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.

In a Facebook post, Mehadi Hassan Palash, general secretary of the Dhaka-based Jhenidah Journalists’ Forum, said his death has caused a great loss to the media arena of the country.

Before joining Desh Rupantor, Amit worked for different dailies, including Kaler Kantho, Samakal, Jai Jai Din, and Bhorer Kagoj, in different positions. In 2018, Amit joined Desh Rupantor as its editor.
