Railway communication between Dhaka and the northern region has been suspended after a compartment of the Khulna-bound Sundarban Express went off the track in Tangail.

The coach derailed west of the Bangabandhu Bridge at 1:20 pm on Friday, said Mizanur Rahman, divisional railway manager (Pakshey).

But he could not immediately tell when the rail links would resume, bdnews24.com reported.

The train departed from Dhaka's Kamalapur Station at 8am.

Two wheels of a Sundarban Express bogey had derailed a few metres to the west of the Bangabandhu Bridge, according to the station's information centre.
