Dengue under control, says LGRD minister

Local Government and Rural Development (LGRD) Minister Mohammad Tajul Islam on Thursday claimed that the dengue situation is under control.

"It's (Dengue) under control, because all institutions are working together," he said after launching anti-mosquito and cleanliness week in Dhaka.

Tajul claimed that the medicine used to exterminate mosquitoes is effective. "We've confirmed this after tests," the minister said.

Dengue, a mosquito-borne disease, infected more than 8,500 people since the beginning of this year and claimed eight lives, according to official figures.

According to a UNB report, a total of 561 new dengue patients were hospitalised across the country on Wednesday. Of them, 559 were from Dhaka City, according to Dr Aysha Akter, Assistant Director at DGHS.
