Dengue: One dies, 865 more hospitalised in last 24 hrs

One more person died of dengue and some fresh 865 people infected with the viral disease got admitted at different hospitals across the country in last 24 hours till Monday morning.

The deceased was identified as Hasan Fakir, 45, a security guard of Madina Group and son of Shakhawat Hossain of Chitalmari upazila in Bagerhat district.

He was undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH).

The Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control and Research (IEDCR), till Sunday, has received a total of 188 death records suspected to be caused by dengue.

After examining 96 cases, the IEDCR confirmed 57 of them died from the mosquito-borne  disease, according to government agency Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

However, according local media reports the death toll crossed way over 150.    

In the meanwhile, some 3,931 people are currently being treated for dengue. Of them, 2,177 are in Dhaka while 1,754 are in other parts of the country.

A total 71,962 patients had been hospitalised since January 1. Of the total, 67,843 were discharged from hospital after recovery, according to government data.

DGHS data also showed that dengue infected started decreasing in September while August has already broken all previous records of dengue infecting with for a single month affecting 52,636 people.
