Deal to buy Sputnik vaccine 'almost done'

Deal with Bangladesh to procure Sputnik-V vaccines from Russia is ‘almost done’, and it will be finalised shortly.

Russian Ambassador to Dhaka Alexander I. Ignatov told the newsmen on Sunday after his meeting with the Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen.

He said Russia is eager to help the people of Bangladesh to fight pandemic and that is why it came forward to supply vaccines to Bangladesh.

According to the ambassador the deal will have two aspects-supply and coproduction.

On April 27 this year the Directorate General of Drug Administration under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of Bangladesh registered the Russian vaccine against Covid-19 “Sputnik V” for “emergency use”, which has demonstrated high rates of efficacy, immunogenicity and safety, officials of Russian Embassy said.

“This step will promote launching of constructive cooperation between our countries in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic,” they noted adding that Bangladesh has become the 62nd country to authorise the use of the Russian vaccine.
