A team of Detective Branch (DB) of police have arrested a ‘constable’ for allegedly raping a woman and extorting money and ornaments from her through blackmail.
The arrestee is identified as Sabbir Ahmed Mehedi, son of Anwar Hossain of Haziganj upazila in Chandpur, and he is learned to be a constable of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
The accused used to live in Sanarpar of Siddhirganj upazila of Narayanganj district, reports UNB.
The victim, a mother of two girls, filed a case with Narayanganj Sadar Model Police Station stating that she had a friendly relation with the accused. Sometimes, they used to talk over phone.
On August 7, Sabbir came to meet her around 6:30pm when she was alone at her brother’s residence at Chashara area in the city.
Taking the advantage, he violated her after feeding her beverage laced with sedatives and took pictures of the nefarious act.
The victim also mentioned that the constable raped her several times after that day and took Tk 0.23 million in cash and ornaments from her threatening to disclose her indecent pictures.
Meanwhile, Enamul Haque, inspector of Narayanganj DB, said they arrested a youth named Mehedi for allegedly raping a woman on Monday. “We’re investigating whether he is a constable.”
