NAOGAON: Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) of the district has set a target of Aman paddy cultivation on some 1,97,500 hectares of land in all eleven upazilas this season.
Most of the peasants of the district are now busy transplanting Aman seedlings on their land and others are preparing their land for transplantation.
Farmers this season are cultivating hybrid, ufshi (high yielding) and local varieties of Aman paddy in almost all areas of the district. Of them, ufshi variety on 1,68,170 hectares of land, local variety on 29,080 hectares and hybrid variety on 250 hectares.
Nur Muhammad of Chakraja village under Mohadevpur upazila said, "I cultivated Aman paddy on 1.65 acres of land this year."
"As the rainwater still remains in the field, I could save my irrigation cost for the cultivation and I am expecting a better production this season due to favourable weather condition throughout the area", he added.
Deputy director of Naogaon DAE Dr. Rabiah Noor Ahmed said, "We have set the Aman cultivation target with a view to producing some 6,01,780 tonnes of paddy from the district this season."
In the district's flood-prone areas, the water has started to recede and the farmers are taking preparation to transplant Aman seedlings, Dr. Ahmed added.
