GOPALGANJ, Feb 06: Gopalganj Sadar upazila agriculture extension department has taken an initiative to cultivate BRRI Dhan-58 under three unions here this season.
DAE office sources said a total of 15 acres of land have been brought under this programme primarily. A total of 15 farmers in three unions-Gobra, Latifpur and Urfi, are involved with the initiative.
"We expect to get around 3.50 tonnes to 4.0 tonnes of paddy from an acre of land", DAE officials added.
It takes around 150 to 155 days to harvest the crop, sources added.
Sekender Sheikh, upazila agriculture officer of Gopalganj Sadar, said the paddy variety is semi hybrid. "We grow the paddy this time for seed production, preservation and distribution among the Boro growers in this region."
Farmer Younus Sheikh of Gonapara village under Gobra union said he is growing BRRI Dhan-58 on 200 decimals of land this season. It is a short-duration of Boro paddy variety.
Ramesh Chandra Bramha, deputy director (Agriculture), Gopalganj, said BRRI Dhan-58 gives a healthy production. Farmer can harvest the crop after 150 to 155 days of cultivation.
