NATROE Jan 14: The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) is expecting more than one thousand tonnes of garlic output this season due to favourable weather condition in Natore agri-zone.
From the very beginning of the sowing stage, the farmers have taken various steps to make the farming a grand success across the region. The saplings of the spice are growing well predicting a bumper production.
Meanwhile, the farmers are spraying pesticide to prevent the massive pest attack. Besides, they are using anti-root rotten pesticides in the evening for getting rid of the problem.
They had produced more than one thousand tonnes of spice last year. The government and non-government organisations have jointly taken adequate steps to make the garlic farming a success. The spice cultivation is increasing gradually in the district every season as its cultivation is easy and production cost is lower than other winter vegetables.
Peasant Enamul Haque of Shingra upazila said he has cultivated the crop on 15 decimals of land this season by spending Tk 2,700. He is expecting to earn Tk 9,000 by selling his produce.
Farmers generally sow the spice in the first week of November and harvest them after 120 days of its cultivation, said sub-assistant agriculture officer Azizur Rahman. If the crops grow well, the farmer can earn Tk 40,000 to 45,000 from a bigha of land.
Deputy Director of DAE Rafiqul Islam said we have encouraged the farmers to grow garlic in a large scale across the region. The farmers are taking effective measures to grow the fresh spice in the region, he added.
