Cyclone Sitrang: 0.4m being evacuated from Ctg district inc. Port City

Local administration has started their evacuation work to move 400,000 people from the coastal areas and Chattogram port city to the nearest of some 511 cyclone shelters opened in the district.

Around 14,000 volunteers have started their work to relocate people to safer places, said Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Mominur Rahman.

Besides, 1440 schools were kept ready for accommodation if needed, reports UNB.

Earlier, in the day, a meeting was held over the overall situation of Cyclone Sitrang at the deputy commissioner office.

"We are monitoring the overall situation centring the cyclonic storm 'Sitrang' and already leaves of all staff were cancelled centring the cyclone," he said.

The local administration also spread awareness about cyclone risks through loudspeakers in the coastal areas of the district, he said.

An emergency cell has been opened and the Upazila Nirbahi Officers have been asked to provide dry foods and medicine to the cyclone centres.

Besides, 290 medical teams were kept ready to provide medical services in any emergency.

The leave of all employees of government and private hospitals have been cancelled and they were asked to stay in their respective workplaces.

Chattogram Civil Surgeon Dr Mohammad Ilias Chowdhury, said all out steps have been taken to tackle the cyclone.
