A deep depression over the Indian Ocean and adjoining South Bay of Bengal has turned into a tropical cyclone named ‘Fani’.
Situated about 2,000 kilometres from Bangladesh coasts on Saturday evening, it is likely to intensify further and move in a northwesterly direction towards Andhra coast of India, the Met Office said.
It asked the maritime ports to hoist distant warning signal No. 2. All fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay and deep sea have been advised to proceed with caution till further notice.
Bangladesh proposed the name of the cyclone, meteorologist Abul Kalam Mollick said.
In the forecast for Sunday, the Met Office said weather may remain mainly dry with temporary partly cloudy sky elsewhere over the country, bdnews24.com reported.
Rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally wind is likely to occur at a few places over Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions and at one or two places over Rajshahi, Khulna and Dhaka divisions and the regions of Cumilla and Noakhali with hails at isolated places.
A mild heat wave sweeping over Khulna division and the regions of Barishal, Patuakhali, Sylhet and Faridpur may continue.
Day temperature may rise slightly over Khulna, Rajshahi, Dhaka and Mymensingh divisions and may remain nearly unchanged elsewhere over the country. Night temperature may rise slightly over the country.
Trough of westerly low lies over West Bengal and adjoining area, according to the forecast.
