Customs officials detain two at Shahjalal with foreign currency

Customs Intelligence officials arrested two persons for illegally carrying foreign currency worth around Tk 2.80 million at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Friday.

Detainees Ariful Islam is resident of Mirpur while Shamim Dhali is resident of Mohammadpur in Dhaka.

"Ariful Islam of Paikpara, Mirpur, and Md Shamim Dhali of Shukrabad, Mohammadpur, were waiting in row for checking in on Malindo Air flight OD-165, when customs intelligence members challenged them. Primarily they
declined having any illegal things with them.

Later the customs members recovered the currencies hidden inside their pants," a Customs Intelligence release said.

"Of the currencies, 60,000 Saudi Riyal and 421 Malaysian Ringgit were recovered from Ariful, 68,500 Saudi Riyal and 135 Malaysian Ringgit were recovered from Shamim.

The estimated worth of the total currencies are Taka 27, 87, 639," according to news agency.

The two were shown arrested under Customs and Money Laundering Prevention Act.
