Custom officials detain man with 43 gold bars from Dhaka airport

Custom intelligence in a drive arrested a man along with 43 gold bars from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Monday night.

All the gold bars were hidden in an ingenious way inside his undergarments until he was caught red-handed by customs intelligence officials at the airport.

Md Anwar Hossain, a resident of Mohammadpur area, bearing passport No- B0176047, arrived at the airport from Singapore around 9pm, said UNB citing director general of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) Mainul Khan.

Acting on a tipped-off, a team of CIID challenged Anwar while he was passing green channel.

During interrogation, he denied having any gold.

Later, they searched his body and found the gold weighing 4.3 kilograms worth Tk 2.14 crore from his underwear, said the official.
