Former assistant proctor of Chittagong University (CU), Anwar Hossain, has been sent to jail after a Chittagong court denied him bail over the murder of Bangladesh Chhatra League leader Diaz Irfan Chowdhury last year.

CU teacher Anwar, accused in the case started by the family, surrendered to the court on Monday after the bail he secured from High Court expired, reports a news agency.

The court of a judicial magistrate scrapped his bail petition and sent him to jail.

Diaz's hanging body was found in his house on the Chittagong University campus in early November last year.

Later on November 24, Diaz’s mother lodged a murder case with a Chittagong court against around 20 people, including Anwar Hossain and CU BCL President Mohammad Alamgir Tipu.
