CU professor dies of Covid-19

Shafiul Alam Tarafdar, a professor of mathematics at Chittagong University, died of Covid-19 at a hospital on Thursday. He was 55.

The CU professor, hailing from Khulna, breathed his last around 9:30pm at the ICU of Parkview Hospital in the port city, said Shah Newaz, a friend of the professor.

Shafiul tested positive for coronavirus on June 9 and was undergoing treatment at the hospital.

He had been suffering from diabetes, blood pressure and other complications, reports a news agency.

Shariful was receiving treatment at the hospital for the last one month. He was shifted to the ICU a few days ago following deterioration of his condition, said a source at the hospital.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh Covid-19 cases have increased to 252,502 with the detection of 2,851 fresh cases on Friday while another 27 died, bringing the death tally to 3,333.
