Another firefighter has succumbed to his injuries suffered while trying to douse a horrific fire at the BM Container Depot in Chattogram’s Sitakunda, raising the death toll to 46.
22-year-old Gausul Azam died at the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery around 3:00am, said Shajahan Sikder, a deputy assistant director at Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence Headquarters on Sunday.
With this death, the death toll of firefighters in the Sitakunda blaze now stands at 10.
The devastating fire broke out at the container facility on Saturday night at Sitakunda, 40km (25 miles) from the port city of Chittagong, triggering multiple explosions, leaving at least 41 dead and over 100 others injured, including firefighters, on the spot.
