Cops kill two in Mymensingh ‘gunfights’

Two arrested suspects have allegedly been killed in separate police ‘shootouts’ in Mymensingh region.

The incidents occurred in the Sadar Upazila’s Poranganj Road and the Sankipara area early on Saturday morning, said Mymensingh Detective Branch OC Ashiqur Rahman.

The dead have been identified as Alamgir Hossain, 24, one of the suspects in the murder of farmer Abul Kashem, and Sirajul Islam, 23, who was accused of stabbing a teacher named Mobarak Morshed Milki. Mymensingh detective police arrested Hossain from the the Sadar Upazila’s Gopalganj on Friday night, according to OC Rahman.

He was then taken on a raid to arrest the other absconding suspects in the Abul Kashem murder case, the OC said. The detective police team were on the road from Joybangla Bazar to Poranganj around 3 am when they were fired upon by 8-10 criminals, including Siddik, an absconding suspect in the case.

“Police returned fire in self-defence. Alamgir tried to flee and was shot. He was taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.”

Police personnel Atik, Razab and Nazmul were injured in the shootout and received treatment at the hospital, OC Rahman said.

According to the police official, Zila School math teacher Mobarak Morshed Milki was stabbed in a knife attack in the Advocate Tarek Memorial Auditorium area on Thursday night, reports bdnews24.

“Police arrested three people, including mugger Sirajul Islam, over the incident. A police team from the Kotowali Police Station took him along on a raid to arrest the others on SA Sarker Road in the Sankipara area.”

“A gunfight broke out and Sirajul was killed. The body has been taken to the Mymensingh Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.”
