Three remanded over ‘distributing money among voters’ in city

A Dhaka court on Wednesday placed three people, including a businessman, on a five-day remand in a case filed for distributing money among voters to influence the national election.

Those remanded are Ali Haider, 24, managing director of United Corporation, Joynal Abedin, 45, GM (admin) of Amena Enterprise, and Alamgir Hossain, 38, office manager of Amena Enterprise.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Masudur Rahman passed the order after sub-inspector Mohammad Faruk Hossain of Motijheel thana, also the investigation officer of the case, produced them before the court seeking a 10-day remand for each.

Being tipped off, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested them from Motijheel and Gulshan areas between Monday and Tuesday. The law enforcers seized Tk 80 million (Tk 8 crore) in cash and cheques of Tk 100 million (Tk 10 crore) from their possession.

Later, RAB members filed the case with Motijheel Police Station.
