‘Terrorist’ dies in Chattogram shootout

A suspected terrorist was killed in a 'shootout' with police at Dudhkumra in Anwara upazila of Chattogram early Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Mohammad Nasir alias Mamun, 35, son of Haju Kalamiah of Boalia and accused in 18 cases including murder and gang-rape.

Dulal Mahmud, officer-in-charge of Anwara Police Station, said police arrested Mamun on Friday afternoon.

Later, a team of police conducted a drive in the area along with Mamun to recover arms.

When the team reached the area around 1 am, a gang of terrorists opened fire on them, prompting the law enforcers to fire back in self-defence, triggering the gunfight, reports UNB.

Mamun was shot while trying to flee and died on the spot. Police recovered one LG, several rounds of bullet from the scene.

Two policemen were also injured.
