‘Robber’ dies in Jashore ‘gunfight’

A suspected robber was killed in a reported gunfight with Detective Branch (DB) of Police on Jashore-Chougaccha road at Dogachia Bazar in Sadar upazila early Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Selim, 40, son of Abdul Kader of Sadar upazila. He was wanted in a dozen of cases, including those on robbery and drug.

DB police’s officer-in-charge Maniruzzaman was quoted by UNB news agency as saying that tipped off that two groups of ‘robbers’ were exchanging bullets among them, a team of them conducted a drive in the area at around 3:30 am.

Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the robbers opened fire on them, forcing them to fire back in self-defence.

At one stage, police recovered the bullet-hit body of Selim and took it to Sadar hospital morgue for autopsy.

One shutter gun, five bullets, three shells of bullets and some sharp weapons were recovered from the spot.
