A young man was stabbed to death by his rivals in Jashore district town's Jorapukur area on Saturday evening.

Police identified the victim as Mamun, 25, son of Abdur Rauf of Ghop Nawapara.

Two others - Arif, 25, and Shefali Begum, 50 - were also injured in the incident.

Witness said one Bappa and his girlfriend went to Kazipara when some local youths, led by Sagor, Faisal, and Hridoy detained them.

Bappa called his friend Mamun and several others. An altercation broke out when the latter reached the spot.

They started to beat Sagor and stabbed his mother Shefali when she tried to save him at around 7:00pm. In retaliation, members of Sagor's gang stabbed Mamun and Arif.

Mamun died while being taken to Jessore General Hospital, reports UNB.

Apurbo Hasan, in-charge of Kotwali Police Station, said they were trying to arrest those involved in the skirmish.
