RAB nabs kidnapping gang members, 3 rescued

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested four members of a kidnapping gang and rescued one abducted person from them in the city’s Mugda area.

The person rescued on Saturday night was identified as Md Abdul Baten, an owner of a rickshaw garage of Meradia Lal Miah Goli, while the four arrestees are – Md Alauddin Sheikh, 28, Md Khokon Hossain, 28, Md Babul Hossain, 25, and Md Mazno Sheikh, 40.

Sources at the RAB-3 battalion headquarters said arrested Alauddin has been demanding Tk 1000 per month for each rickshaw as extortion fee from the rickshaw garage owner Baten.

According to a UNB report, he also threatened Baten with snatching away the rickshaws unless his demand was met.

As Baten failed to pay the amount, Alauddin along with his accomplices kidnapped Baten from Manda Chhata mosque area of Mugda on November 4.

Tipped off, a team of RAB-3 conducted a drive at the rickshaw garage of Manda around 5:30pm and arrested the four kidnappers of an organised gang and rescued Baten.

Besides, the elite force also rescued two more victims, who were kept hostage inside the flat earlier.
