Police have recovered the body of a female garment worker from her home in Gazipur’s Sreepur area and said they are looking for her husband.

Sreepur Police Station SI Md Mostafizur Rahman said that they believe the approximately 25-year-old Shameem Ahmed hacked his wife Jhuma Akhtar Ahladee, 20, to death over a family quarrel.

Both Shameem and Jhuma worked at the Blue Planet Knitwear Limited garment factory in Sreepur’s Badar region. The two rented a home in the Mulaid area.

According to neighbours, Shameem and Jhuma returned home on Saturday after their Eid holidays, said SI Rahman. They had an argument that afternoon.

“At some point in the night Shameem hacked Jhuma to death with a sharp weapon, locked the door and fled. In the morning the neighbours entered the room, found Jhuma’s body and reported it to police.”

Police recovered the body around 8:30 am on Sunday. It had wounds on the neck, shoulder, head and various other parts of the body, said SI Rahman, reports bdnews24.

Police are investigating the death and are searching for absconding Shameem, he said.
