Police arrest UP member for assaulting school headmaster

Police on Saturday arrested a Union Parishad (UP) member for allegedly beating the headmaster of a government primary school in Muragacha village of Manirampur upazila.

Manowar Hossain, 30, member of Rohita Union Parishad in the upazila was arrested for bating Uttam Kumar Das, 55, the headmaster of Mahtabnagar Government Primary School in the same union, according to UNB.

Assistant Education Officer Mahidul Islam of the upazila said locals submitted a written complaint to his office accusing the headmaster of several charges, which was supposed to be looked into on August 19.

But, Manowar along with his associates assaulted the headmaster and his brother Kamal Das entering their house around 9:30 pm, leaving them injured.

Later, the injured was taken to Jhikargacha Upazila Health Complex.

Sub-inspector Ainuddin, in-charge of Khedapara Police Camp, said police arrested the UP member from a village market soon after a case was filed accusing eight people including the up member as the prime suspect.
