Police arrest six ‘Jamaat-Shibir men’ with bombs

Six suspected members of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student front Islami Chhatra Shibir were arrested with improvised bombs and Jihadi books at South Keraniganj in the city on Monday night.

"We suspect that they gathered there to carry out subversive activities," said Shah Zaman, the officer-in-charge of South Keraniganj Police Station.

He said they raided Hasnabad Housing building at night and arrested the men.

"We recovered four improvised bombs, a large number of Jihadi books and training materials from there," he said.

Police named the arrestees as Joynul Abedin, 52, Md Atiiar Rahman hailing from Dhaka's Dohar upazila; Md Tariqul Islam, 30, from Satkhira; Md Al Amin, 25, from Kurigram's Nageswari Upazila; Abu Taher from Cumilla; Md Kamaruzzaman Shamim from Chandpur's Haziganj Upazila.

A case was filed against them, the OC added, reports UNB.
