A man has died in a ‘shootout’ with RAB in Munshiganj as security forces continued nationwide anti-drug crackdown.

The gunfight took place at Purba Kumarbhog area in Louhajang Upazila around 4:30 am on Friday, said ASP Mohitul Islam, company commander of RAB-11.

The man has been identified as Makbul Hossain, 36, from Uttar Medinimandal village in Louhajang.

He was named in 12 anti-narcotic cases, said Sub Inspector Harun of Louhajang Police station.

Being tipped off, a RAB team conducted an operation to retrieve drugs in Purba Kumarbhog, said ASP Mohitul.

“Drug traders opened fire on RAB and the elite force retaliated. Makbul was found injured on the scene after ten minutes of gunfight. The others fled.”

Then Makbul was taken to Louhajang Upazila Health Complex, where the doctors declared him dead, said a bdnews24 report.

A shotgun, two bullets, a magazine, 500 yaba pills, Tk 4,675, two phones and pairs of sandals were recovered from the scene, Mohitul said.

Two RAB officials were also injured in the gunfight, he added.
