BGB detains man with foreign currency

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in a drive arrested a man along with 94,000 Indian rupee from Baliaghat border in Tahirpur upazila of Sunamganj on Monday.

The arrestee was identified as Zakir Mia, 40, son of Anis Mia of Bakatala village in the upazila, reports a news agency. 

Tipped off, a team of BGB led by Subedar Anisur Rahman, commanding officer of Takerhat BGB camp, conducted the drive in the area and arrested Zakir along with the Indian rupee, said Lt Col Maksudul Haq, commanding officer of BGB 28.

Zakir had long been involved in smuggling currency in the area, said BGB.
