‘Drug pedlar’ dies in Meherpur ‘gunfight’

A suspected drug trader was killed in an alleged gunfight between two gangs at Harabhanga village in Gangni Upazila of Meherpur in the early hours of Monday.

Police said deceased Budu Ali, 30, son of late Zoyad Ali, and a resident of Pirtola village, was accused in several drugs-related cases.

Harendra Nath Sarker, officer-in-charge of Gangni Police Station, said a team from Pirtola police camp went to the spot after hearing gunshots.

"Police rescued Budu, wounded in the gunfight, and took him to Gangni Upazila Health Complex where doctors pronounced him dead," Sarker said.

Police claimed that it was a gunfight between two groups of drug traders, UNB reported.

One kg of hemp, 20 bottles of phensedyl and a one-shooter gun were seized from the site.
