‘Drug pedlar’ dies in Cox’s Bazar ‘gunfight’

A suspected drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight with police in Cox’s Bazar in the early hours of Saturday.

The trader was identified as Ziaul Bohir Shahin, 30, accused in seven cases.

According to Pradip Kumar Das, officer-in-charge of Teknaf Police Station, Ziaul was arrested on Friday.

After interrogating the suspect for information, police conducted a drive along with Ziaul in Ulichamari area of Teknaf upazila to recover yaba pills and arms.

Sensing presence of policemen, accomplices of Ziaul opened fire on the law enforcers, prompting them to fire back.

Ziaul received bullet injuries was killed in the gunfight, UNB reported.

After the skirmish, police recovered 15,000 yaba tablets, three firearms and 15 rounds of bullet from the scene.
