BGB detains one with 20 gold bars at Benapole

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh arrested a suspected gold smuggler along with 20 pieces of gold bars from Baro Achra border at Benapole international check post on Sunday morning.

The arrestee was identified as Sabuj Miah (34), son of Shahidul Islam of Sadipur village, a news agency reported.

Lt Colonel Ariful Haque, commanding officer of BGB 49 battalion, said based on secret information, a patrol team of BGB conducted a drive here and arrested Sabuj.

After searching his body, they recovered 20 pieces of gold bars worth about Tk 10 million.

The seized gold bars were deposited to Benapole customs godown.

A case was filed in this connection.
