Cricketer Nasir, wife Tamima get bail

Former national cricketer Nasir Hossain, his wife Tamima Sultana Tammi, and mother-in-law Sumi Akhter have been granted bail in a case filed over 'illegal marriage'.

The Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Tofazzal Hossain passed the order as the trio surrendered before the court and prayed for granting bail on Monday.

Cricketer Nasir's lawyer submitted a petition seeking bail applied for exemption from personal appearance in the case but the court rejected his second appeal.

The plaintiff, Tamima's first husband Rakib Hasan's lawyer Ishrat Jahan confirmed the matter, reports BSS.

Earlier on October 31, they surrendered before the court of Metropolitan Magistrate (MM) Mohammad Jasim and sought bail plea.

After hearing of both sides, the Judge granted bail and ordered to transfer the case to another court for trial.

On September 30, cricketer Nasir Hossain, his wife Tamima Sultana and mother-in-law Sumi Akhter were summoned to appear before the court on October 31.

On the same day, the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) submitted an investigation report to the court saying the marriage of Nasir and Tamima was illegal.

Mizanur Rahman, the Investigating Officer (IO) of the case, submitted the report against the three accused including Nasir.

The investigation agency in its report said Tamima Sultana Tammi, a cabin crew of Saudi Airlines, illegally got married to Nasir without divorcing her first and legal husband Md Rakib Hasan.

She also created a forged divorce notice and supplied it to different media outlets. The probe report also found Nasir and Tammi's mother guilty for the same crime.

Rakib Hasan filed the case on February 24 and the court instructed the PBI to probe the allegations and submit its report.

Rakib and Tamima got married on February 26, 2011, and they have an eight-year-old daughter. On February 14, 2021, Tamima married Nasir without divorcing Rakib.
