Covid claims two more lives, infects 36

Bangladesh has registered 36 new cases of Covid-19 in a day, taking the overall tally of infections to 1,952,362.

The government recorded two deaths in the 24-hour count, raising the total toll from the disease to 29,126, according to the latest data released on Monday.

As many as 5,407 samples were tested across the country, for a positivity rate of 0.67 per cent.

Among the eight divisions, Dhaka recorded the highest number of cases, with 29 infections, reports bdnews24.com.

Another 355 people recovered from the illness nationwide, bringing the total number of recoveries to 1,891,197.

The latest figures put the recovery rate at 96.87 per cent and the mortality rate at 1.49 per cent.

Globally, over 504.58 million people have been infected by the novel coronavirus and 6.19 million have died, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.

Infections have been reported in more than 210 countries and territories since the first cases were identified in China in December 2019.
