Covid-19: Positivity rate jumps to 6.27pc, 433 cases in 24 hours

Bangladesh has registered 433 cases of Covid-19 in a day, the highest since March 8, taking the overall tally of infections to 1,955,427.

As many as 6,905 samples were tested across the country in 24 hours till Friday morning, for a positivity rate of 6.27 per cent, according to the latest government data released on Friday. On Thursday, the health authorities reported a 5.76 per cent positivity rate.

But no new fatalities were registered in the period, keeping the death toll from the disease unchanged at 29,131, reports bdnews24.com.

Among the eight divisions, Dhaka recorded the highest number of cases, with 393 infections.

Another 93 people recovered from the illness nationwide, bringing the total number of recoveries to 1,905,711.

The latest figures put the recovery rate at 97.46 per cent and the mortality rate at 1.49 per cent.

Globally, over 537.88 million people have been infected by the novel coronavirus and 6.31 million have died, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.

Infections have been reported in more than 210 countries and territories since the first cases were identified in China in December 2019.
