Covid-19 caseload tops 1.9 million in Bangladesh

5,023 cases, 20 deaths reported in 24 hours

Bangladesh has recorded 5,023 new coronavirus cases in a day, taking the total caseload to 1,904,826.

It also recorded 20 deaths from the COVID-19 in a day, taking the total toll from the disease to 28,791, according to the latest government data released on Saturday, reports bdnews24.com.

As many as 30,448 samples were tested across the country, for a positivity rate of 16.5 per cent.

Among the eight divisions, Dhaka recorded the highest number of cases and deaths with 3,894 infections and 13 fatalities. Chattogram recorded 573 cases.

Another 8,821 people recovered from the illness nationwide, bringing the total number of recoveries to 1,664,802.

The latest figures put the recovery rate at 87.40 per cent and the mortality rate at 1.51 per cent.

Globally, over 408.55 million people have been infected by the novel coronavirus and 5.80 million have died, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.

Infections have been reported in more than 210 countries and territories since the first cases were identified in China in December 2019.
