Covid-19 burials: Quantum volunteers busy during this lockdown too

The Quantum Foundation, one of the voluntary organisations in the country, is actively involved in the burials of coronavirus victims, even amidst an all-out lockdown across the country, reports UNB.

Thousands of Quantum volunteers are working 24 hours a day or night for the burial of the deceased, regardless of religion, said a press release from Quantum Foundation.

Despite the lockdown, relentless humanitarian service activities are going on all over the country including the capital.

Khandaker Sajibul Islam, who is in charge of Quantum Burial in Kakrail, said, "We were able to bury 20 bodies of coronavirus victim in Dhaka till night on the first day of the nationwide lockdown on July 01."

Quantum Foundation workers have buried nearly 4,000 bodies since 2020.

Quantum has been working for the burials of bodies with coronavirus or corona symptoms since the beginning of Corona in April, 2020.

The burial service is going on because of the self-planning, self-financing and voluntary activity of the volunteers.

In all, according to the press release more than two hundred volunteers are involved in burial services in Dhaka. Some of these volunteers are students, some are teachers, some are journalists, some are businessmen and some are lawyers.

There is also a separate group of women volunteers in the list of volunteers of different ages in different professions.

Apart from Muslims, there are separate arrangements for followers of other religions. This volunteer team of the organisation comes forward with human values.

Following the burial directives of the Health Ministry and Islamic Foundation, Quantum volunteers reach the house or hospital to collect the body and perform all rituals accordingly.

In addition to the hospital, the Quantum burial service is running in Kakrail in its own washroom, disinfecting bodies and arranging them in the final condition.

However, this year, many of the deceased's relatives are staying by the victim's side taking part in the janaza. They are also taking responsibility for the burial themselves.

Among the various services of Quantum, burial service activities were started in Rajshahi in 2004.
