Covid-19: 27 deaths, 1,442 new infections reported in 24 hours

Bangladesh on Monday registered 27 more deaths from Coronavirus disease, taking the total number of fatalities to 5,375 since the first deaths were recorded in the country on March 18, according to government data.

Meanwhile, some 1,442 fresh infections were also recorded in the past 24 hours, taking the total infections count to 370,132, said a press release of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Besides, 1,526 coronavirus patients made recovery during the same period, the release added, saying that the total number of recoveries now stands at 283,182.

The recovery rate rose to 76.51 per cent while the death rate remained at 1.45 per cent, it read.

Of the deceased, 17 were men and 10 were women with 77.30 per cent death rate for men and 22.70 per cent for women, the release said, adding that 25 people died at different hospitals and two others died at their homes.

Meanwhile, the country’s health ministry in its 109 authorised labs, tested a total of 11,767 samples, taking the total number of samples tested across the country to over 2.0 million, according to the DGHS release.
