Court issues arrest warrant against Evaly chairman Shamima Nasrin

Dhaka Cyber Tribunal has issued an arrest warrant against Shamima Nasrin, the chairman of e-commerce platform Evaly, in a case filed under the Digital Security Act.

Judge Ash Shams Zaglul Hossain of Dhaka Cyber Tribunal issued the warrant on October 19 as Shamima did not appear before the court on the day, which was fixed for passing an order on taking the charge sheet into cognisance.

After issuing the warrant, the court set January 22, 2023, for holding a hearing on framing charges against the accused in the case, reports BSS.

"October 19 was fixed for passing order on taking the charge sheet into cognisance. Accused Shamima didn't appear before the court, instead pleaded for a time through her lawyer," tribunal bench clerk Shamim Al Mamun said.

A customer, Alamgir Hossain, filed the case against Evaly managing director Mohammad Rassel, its chairman and Rassel's wife Shamima Nasrin on September 30, 2021, with the capital's Badda Police Station.

According to the case documents, the plaintiff ordered goods of Tk 2.8 million from the e-commerce platform through his two accounts and paid the money in advance.

Though Evaly was supposed to deliver the goods within 45 days of the order, he didn't get those even after seven months. He later filed the case.

Investigation officer and CID sub-inspector Prodip Kumar on September 16, 2022, filed charge sheet against Shamima and Rassel. October 19, 2022, was fixed for passing the order on taking the charge sheet into cognisance.
