Court asks cops to sue Farhad Mazhar!

A Dhaka court has revoked its earlier order within hours and asked police to file a case against columnist Farhad Mazhar over the writer's alleged abduction.

On Thursday, Farhad Mazhar’s wife Farida Akhter was also asked to be sued.

Khurshid Alam, the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate, passed the order Thursday afternoon accepting the final report submitted by the Detective Branch of police in a case filed over the alleged abduction.

Earlier in the day, the court adjourned the hearing until January 9 asking Farida to file a no-confidence petition when she rejected the DB probe report and sought time for filing the petition.

On November 14, DB Inspector Mahbubul Islam, also investigation officer of the case, submitted the final report to the court mentioning that they did not find any proof of abduction.

The final report also called for taking action under sections 109 and 211 of the penal code against Farhad Mazhar and his wife for filing a 'false' case of abduction.

The court then fixed December 7 for the hearing.

On July 3, family members claimed that Farhad Mazhar had been kidnapped by unknown miscreants from Adabar in the capital in the early hours of the day.

Later, police found him in a 'Hanif Paribahan' bus in Jessore around 11:30pm on the same day while he was returning to Dhaka from Khulna.

His wife filed the case with Adabar Police Station upon which the case was transferred to the Detective Branch of police, said UNB.
