Country’s first pet hospital starts journey

The country’s first ‘Teaching and Training Pet Hospital and Research Centre’ began its journey in the capital on Sunday.

Chattogram Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (CVASU) established the pet hospital and research centre on a land of 22 katha at Purbachal aiming to provide treatment to pet animals and impart training on intern and post-graduate veterinary doctors.

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid formally inaugurated the hospital at a function at the newly constructed hospital and research centre at Purbachal in the city.

Apart from existing infrastructure, a multi-storey building will be set up with modern facilities, including medicine, surgery, gynaecology and obstetrics, orthopedics, radiology and imaging and vaccination units, reports BSS.

Intern veterinary students of different universities will be able to get training on pet animals from the centre.

Speaking on the occasion, Nahid said people who rear pet animals will get modern treatment for their pets from the hospital.

“As we did not have any public hospital for pet animals, this hospital will play a key role to ensure improved treatment of pet animals. Intern doctors will also get the opportunity to acquire practical knowledge from expert doctors at the hospital,” he added.

University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Prof Abdul Mannan, Secondary and Higher Education Division Secretary Md Sohorab Hossain and CVASU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Goutam Buddha Das, among others, spoke on the occasion.
