Country’s first ever 6-lane flyover opens today

First six-lane flyover of the country will be opened to traffic at Feni's Mohipal today (Thursday) with an aim to ease traffic congestion and ensure better communications through Dhaka-Chittagong Highway.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to formally declare the flyover open through a videoconference from her official residence Ganobhaban at 10:00am.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said the construction work on the 660-metre flyover has been completed six months before the schedule under the supervision of Bangladesh Army.

Apart from the six-lane overpass, the minister said, there will be a four-lane road service on both sides under it.

A total of Tk 1.81 billion has been spent on building the flyover at Mohipal, a major intersection on the busy Dhaka-Chittagong Highway.

UNB said the intersection connects Dhaka on the north, Chittagong on the south, Feni on the east and Noakhali, Laksmipur and Chandpur on the west.

Abdul Monem Limited under the 19th Engineer Construction of Bangladesh Army constructed the flyover.
