Countrymen celebrate Eid-ul-Azha with much enthusiasm: Hasan Mahmud

Information and Broadcasting Minister Hasan Mahmud has urged the BNP leaders to look into the world situation instead of confining themselves within the four walls of the party office and among the leaders and activists.

"The countrymen have been able to reach their destinations without any hassle to celebrate the holy Eid-ul-Azha and they have celebrated Eid with much enthusiasm. It has also been cleared again that we have become self-sufficient in sacrificing animals," he said.

The minister told reporters while replying to a query over a comment of BNP leader Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on the power issue at his residence in the port city on Tuesday, reports BSS.

Earlier, Hasan had a meeting with the officials of waterlogging relief implementation project in the port city.

The minister said this year no animal could enter the country through the border due to strict decisions of the government to benefit the farmers of Bangladesh. The country is now self-sufficient in this sector, he added.

He said, though Bangladesh ranked 92nd in area, it is third in paddy and freshwater fish production, fourth in vegetables and seventh in potato cultivation.

He said it has been possible to meet the demand for sacrificial animals through local farming. Even, the number of locally reared animals was much more than the demand and that's why many animals were not sold, he added.

“It has been possible due to different pragmatic steps of the government,” said Hasan, also Awami League joint general secretary.

The minister said the whole world, even many economically capable countries are using electricity responsibly and the premier aptly called upon all to act responsibly and maintain austerity in electricity use.

He said during the tenure of the BNP people took to the street with the electricity demand but some of the protesters were shot dead for their demonstration at Kansat.

“So, talks about electricity do not befit BNP,” he added.

The minister said the world is facing an economic recession due to the prevalence of the Covid-19 pandemic and the Ukraine-Russia war.

"You all know that there were many obstacles and conspiracies while constructing the Padma Bridge. But Bangabandhu's daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has constructed the bridge by brushing aside all conspiracies.

"And the country would march ahead by defying all obstacles and crisis under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina," he added.

He however hoped that the country would be able to reach its desired destination as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Replying to another query over water logging in the port city, Hasan said the government has allocated near about Taka 110.00 billion under three projects to solve the waterlogging problem.
