Two die in road mishaps across country

At least two people including a minor boy were killed in two separate road accidents in Brahmanbaria and Panchagarh districts on Friday evening.

The deceased were identified as Manik Miah, 40, an autorickshaw driver hailing from Chunta area in Sarail upazila in Brahmanbaria and Md Arafat, 8, son of Safil Uddin of Chaprajhar village in Atwari upazila of Panchagarh district.

In Brahmanbaria, the autorickshaw driver was killed as a speeding bus hit his rickshaw on Cumilla-Sylhet highway in the evening.

Protesting the accident, locals blocked the highway for around two hours. Later, police rushed in and brought the situation under control and sent the body to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital for an autopsy, said Nabir Hossain, officer-in-charge of Brahmanbaria Sadar Police Station.

In Panchagarh, a class-II student was knocked by an auto-rickshaw on Atwari-Panchagarh road at Radhanagar area in Atwari upazila sadar in the evening, leaving him severely injured, UNB reported.

Locals took the injured Atwari Health Complex from where he was shifted to Thakurgaon Sadar Hospital where he succumbed to his injury.
