Two cops in prison after trying to snatch smuggled gold

Police detained two assistant sub-inspectors of police allegedly for trying to snatch smuggled gold from Navaron intersection in Sharsha upazila of Benapole on Wednesday.

Sharsha Police arrested ASI Ishak of Kolaroa Police Station and Mamun Reza of Patkelghata Police Station and two alleged gold smugglers - Mamun Reza's brother Ashik Reza and Ashim, 32, son of Dudu Mia hailing from Dakkhindhor area of Manikganj district.

On information, police raided the spot and detained all four of them along with two gold bars, said Sheikh Tasmim Alam, Inspector (investigation) of Sharsha Police Station, UNB reports.

It was learned that ASI Mamun and ASI Ishak had been involved in a scuffle with the two young men after seizing the two gold bars from them.
