T-Aman growers in Sylhet getting satisfactory output

SYLHET, Dec 03: Harvest of T-Aman paddy is going on in all the four districts of Sylhet region.

However, on average only 20 per cent paddy has been harvested so far in this division, official sources said. 

A report prepared at the Sylhet divisional office of the DAE on Monday showed about 32 per cent rice is harvested in Sylhet district, 30 per cent in Moulvibazar and Habiganj each and 21 per cent in Sunamganj.

DAE additional director, Sylhet divisional office, Md Altabur Rahman told this correspondent that crops on 115,545 hectares of land have so far been harvested and growers are getting good yield.

"We are expecting a bumper production as the region did not face any major hazard this year, the official added.

In total 400,175 hectares of land were brought under the T-Aman farming this season in Sylhet division while the target of yield is about 1.0 million tonnes of rice.

Newly-harvested paddy is selling at Tk 500 to Tk 600 per maund in the local markets.

Growers of Golapganj and Beanibazar upazilas of Sylhet showed their dissatisfaction over the present market rate of Aman rice.
