Sundarbans ‘gunfight’ leaves two robbers dead

Two members of a pirate gang, "Abbas Bahini" were killed during a 'gunfight' with members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Katlar Khal of Baleshwar River under Swarankhola range of the Sundarbans on Wednesday morning.

Wing Commander of RAB-8, Hasan Emon Al Rajib said acting on a tip-off, a team of elite force carried out a drive in Katlar Khal area on Tuesday night.

The pirate gang members opened fire at RAB members sensing their presence, forcing them to retaliate that triggered a gunfight around 7:45 am.  

Yusuf Fakir, second-in-command of the robber gang and Ruhul Amin, a gang member were caught in the line of fire and died on the spot, Rab sources said.

RAB team also recovered seven local and foreign firearms and 124 rounds of bullets from the spot, according to a UNB report.
