BOGURA, Jan 14: Sudden price fall makes hundreds of T-Aman paddy farmers worried in the district.

After harvesting the crops the farmers were worried as they were selling each maund of crops at Tk 600 to 700 because they sold per maunds at Tk 800 to 900 fifteen days back. Now, each maund of thin paddy at Tk 700 to 750 while course one at Tk 650 to 700 in the whole sale markets.

The paddy growesr in the district, including 12 upazilas, are counting a huge amount of loss as their well produced crops are being sold at cheaper rate compared to that of the production cost.

The paddy farmers across the district already completed harvesting of T-Aman paddy last month.  Its price remained very low at the root and wholesale level market during the last month, although the government has declared to start its paddy procurement drive at the price of Tk 34 for per kg rice.

A farmer Soleman Hossain under Dupchanchia upazila said, "I sold per maund of thin T-Aman paddy at Tk 900 to Tk 920 at the growers' level before a couple of weeks."

"Now, I sell each maund of paddy at Tk 720 in the local markets though the production cost this season is estimated to be around Tk 700," he added.

According to officials at Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) , more lands in the district were brought under T-Aman paddy cultivation this season compared to the previous season.

DAE again said the output has also exceeded the target of 0.85 million tonnes as they have provided all sorts of necessary agri-inputs.
