Students attend classes in the open for classroom shortage

NAOGAON, Mar 17: Students of Mirzapur KC High School under Badalgachi upazila of the district are attending classes under the open sky due to shortage of classrooms.

The regular academic activities of the school are being hampered seriously for the acute classroom crisis.

Sources said there are nine rooms in the school building for 388 students (class VI to class X), 11 teachers and three staffs.

Of the total nine rooms, five are classrooms, one is for head teacher, one is for assistant teachers, one room is used for common room of female students and library and another one is for computer lab.

The problem becomes severe  especially when the classes of science and humanities groups of class IX and X are scheduled to be held at the same time.

Sanjida Khatun and Srabon Kumar, two class X students of the school said, "We can participate in class under open sky amid favourable weather condition without any problem."

"But the weather does not favour always", they added.

Headmaster Mamunur Rashid said educational activities are seriously being hampered for classrooms shortage.

"We contacted different authorities including the local Member Of Parliament (MP). They assured us several times, but did not take measures to solve the problem", he added.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Masum Ali Beg said an application has been submitted to the ministry concerned in this regard.
