Cultivation of Bina Dhan, a short duration and drought-tolerant paddy has largely expanded in Sunamganj.
It is a short-duration variety of Aus paddy that is very suitable for areas like Sunamganj as it can be transplanted amid a drought-like situation in March-April. The less costly variety has been gaining popularity among the farmers rapidly for its short duration farming and easy harvesting nature.
Since the farmers can harvest the variety in 100 to 105 days, it has a huge prospect in regions like Sunamganj, they noted. For wooing the common farmers, we arrange training and on-field demonstration for them in this region, agriculture officials said. Besides, incentives like seed, fertiliser, and others were also provided for them this year.
Crop cutting of Bina Dhan-19, a short-duration paddy, invented by the Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture (Bina) was held in the Buristhal area of Sunamganj Sadar.
Bina Director-General Dr Mirza Mofazzal Islam joined it virtually while Bina's Sunamganj Sub-centre in charge Abdur Rakib and a number of officials and farmers from different areas took part.
